Happy Birthday Dad

Some of my favorite Dad memories are...
*Playing tickle monster as a child, hiding behind the clothes in his closet until he would eventually find us and then we would get our guts tickled out.
*being surrounded by poetry. He was and is always quoting something. Not quietly either!
*hay rides
*Stampede
*He always told me I was a hard worker, which made me always want to be a hard worker.
* going on long bike rides (he would never turn one down) wishing I could keep up. He was in his 50's. I was a teenager.
*I swear he never missed a game (softball).
*seeing him give my Mom a little kiss whenever he got home from work.

LINES AND SQUARES by A.A. Milne

Whenever I walk in a London street,
I'm ever so careful to watch my feet;
And I keep in the squares,
And the masses of bears,
Who wait at the corners all ready to eat
The sillies who tread on the lines of the street
Go back to their lairs,
And I say to them, "Bears,
Just look how I'm walking in all the squares!"

And the little bears growl to each other, "He's mine,
As soon as he's silly and steps on a line."
And some of the bigger bears try to pretend
That they came round the corner to look for a friend;
And they try to pretend that nobody cares
Whether you walk on the lines or squares.
But only the sillies believe their talk;
It's ever so portant how you walk.
And it's ever so jolly to call out, "Bears,
Just watch me walking in all the squares!"

I love this post. It made me cry when I read Lines and Squares. I know I am silly. I will make sure Dad sees this.

I always loved your socks when you rode your bike, and your singing voice in church! :)

I'm with Chelsea - I remember your dad's socks when riding his bike - we'd always do a double take when we saw him -

and I do remember his singing voice too...Happy Birthday Bro. Bogle!

Very nice post about Dad. I bawled when I watched the story about your friends. That's so sad for them. What a wonderful young man he must have been.
